Aurel Vlaicu University of Arad
Traditionally, October signals our coming together, a fact that has deep roots with UAV. This university has been built through our common efforts and has been transformed into a prestigious institution of higher education; it has always been based on a fundamental aspiration to achieve a local, prestigious university. Today, Aurel Vlaicu University of Arad disposes of an impressive material basis of over 45.900 square meters spread across various locations in addition to a highly professional academic staff.
The "Aurel Vlaicu" University of Arad is a state higher education institution continuing the tradition of university education in the Arad area which started with the:
- Theology Institute (1822),
- The Livestock and Veterinary Medicine Faculty (1947),
- The Engineering Institute (1972).
The University "Aurel Vlaicu" has developed, year after year, new study programs , with new faculties, which meet the terms of quality standards. For instance the academic year 2010/2011 marks the establishment of the Faculty of Design and the study programs: psychology, computer science, economics, marketing, and fashion and fashion design.
Now, the dynamism of the demand in study programs and our capabilities lead to 32 Bachelor study programs, 23 Master study programs and PhD studies in Orthodox Theology.
A fundamental dimension of higher education is the scientific research. In the 2008-2009 academic year scientific research has accelerated in comparison with previous years. It can be underlined that in 2008 UAV submitted in 9 international research projects and 7 national research projects. Of these, 8 international projects and 5 international projects have won.

"Aurel Vlaicu" University of Arad is a distinct academic community functioning under the provisions of the Romanian Constitution, of the laws and regulations applied to the educational system. UAV follows and promotes the European conventions regarding higher education. The University benefits from a highly trained academic staff and high quality endowments for didactic and scientific activities. The Academic Curricula, for all the Faculties are connected with European Credits Transfer System (ECTS) since 1999, so that Diplomas as well as periods of study may be recognized all over the EU. Through Erasmus+ programs the students can attend, for a period of time (up to two semesters in total), the courses of another Erasmus+ partner university. The University guarantees full academic recognition for all Erasmus+ students that take part in the mobility program.

"Aurel Vlaicu" University of Arad is highly involved in scientific research, development and innovation. This fact represents a strategic priority for our university; thus the foundation of a quality higher education is laid, one that benefits from an efficient, dynamic and flexible management, adding institutional value in the context of national and international exposure. Scientific research is paramount for development, hence all responsible higher education institutions must focus on it.
Knowledge is a fundamental condition for progress in every scientific area. Additionally fundamental research affords fundament for applied research. The availability of international cooperation, the increasing number of teaching and research staff mobility, easy access to large foreign research infrastructures as well as research journals, are all highly beneficial to research.
Under the general guidelines of the Research, Development and Innovation Plan III, for 2015-2020 in addition to the National Research Strategy for 2014-2020, UAV`s mission regarding scientific research is:
- Developing highly relevant interdisciplinary, fundamental and applied scientific research
- Involving the university`s staff in research: teaching staff , PhD, MA and undergraduate students alike
- Promoting research-development-innovation centers at university and faculty levels alike in order to: centralize efforts for obtaining valuable research results, highlighting the institutional ability to cooperate with the scientific and socio-economic environment, the development of a functional partnership with national and international research institutes.
