3/31/2026

Between March 28–29, 2026, the 25th edition of the National University Judo Championship took place in Sibiu, a competition dedicated to both men’s and women’s events. The event was organized by the Federation of School and University Sports, in partnership with Lucian Blaga University of Sibiu and the Romanian Judo Federation, with the support of the Sibiu County Directorate for Sport and the Sibiu County School Inspectorate.

Aurel Vlaicu University of Arad participated in the competition with a team of five students (four female athletes and one male athlete), achieving remarkable results, especially in the women’s competition. UAV students won one gold medal, two silver medals, and one bronze medal, as follows:

  • Vladu Ana Maria Cristiana (3rd year, Physical Education and Sports, 48 kg category) – 1st place
  • Tudorache Dariana Elena (1st year, Physical Education and Sports, +78 kg category) – 2nd place
  • Rus Ana Maria Nicoleta (1st year, Physical Education and Sports, 70 kg category) – 2nd place
  • Rus Alexandra Ștefania (1st year, Physical Education and Sports, 63 kg category) – 3rd place
  • Boroncoi Alexandru (3rd year, Physical Education and Sports, 90 kg category) – 5th place

Thanks to these performances, Aurel Vlaicu University of Arad ranked 2nd place in the women’s team standings, surpassing several traditional university sports centers.

“The results achieved by our students at the National University Judo Championship once again confirm the value and potential of the academic community of Aurel Vlaicu University of Arad. We are proud of their performances and of the way they combine academic excellence with sporting excellence.

We congratulate both the students for their determination and commitment, as well as the teaching staff and coaches who contribute to their development. Our university will continue to support performance and encourage excellence in all fields,” stated the Rector of UAV Arad, Dr. Habil. Ramona Lile.

The team was coordinated by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Viorel Petru Ardelean, Dean of the Faculty of Physical Education and Sports and coordinator of combat sports disciplines.

The competition brought together students from 12 university centers across the country, with the total number of participants (athletes and coaches) exceeding 110.

The results confirm the value of the athletes from Arad and the high level of their training, while also highlighting the students’ ability to combine academic and sporting performance. An important role in these achievements is also played by the coaches of CS Universitatea Arad — Nagy Arpad, Carol Szabo, and EFS alumnus Nagy Robert, under whose guidance some of the athletes train.
