"Aurel Vlaicu" University of Arad Opens the 2024-2025 Academic Year
9/28/2024On Saturday, September 28, at the Cultural Palace in Arad, the Rector of the University, Associate Professor Dr. Teodor Cilan, along with the team of Vice-Rectors and Deans of the nine faculties, officially announced the opening of the 2024-2025 academic year for "Aurel Vlaicu" University of Arad.
Starting Monday, over 6,000 students from Arad's nine faculties will begin classes in 37 undergraduate programs, 30 master’s programs, five doctoral programs, and several postgraduate courses. The ceremony marked an important moment in the academic year, celebrated in the grand setting of the Arad Philharmonic building. The hall’s exceptional acoustics were once again highlighted by the performances of the university’s two choirs: the Academica Choir of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences and the “Atanasie Lipovan” Choir of the Faculty of Theology, directed by Lect. Dr. Iulia Roman and Associate Professor Dr. Tiberiu Ardelean.
In front of a full house, the ceremony, skillfully hosted by Vlad Sergiu Sandu, a doctoral candidate from the Faculty of Theology, brought together local and regional authorities, representatives from pre-university institutions, partner institutions, students, parents, and university collaborators.
A special moment honored former rectors: Ms. Lizica Mihuț, Mr. Gheorghe Păcurariu, and His Excellency Radu Homescu, the first elected rector of UAV, who shared messages of encouragement for the start of the new academic year.
Several distinguished guests addressed the students and academic staff, including His Eminence Timotei Seviciu, Archbishop of Arad; Deputy Prefect Doru Sinaci; His Excellency Florin Trandafir Vasiloni, Consul General of Romania in Szeged; County Council President Iustin Cionca; Arad’s Mayor Călin Bibarț; Rector of the “Vasile Goldiș” Western University, Professor Dr. Coralia Cotoraci; General School Inspector Marius Gondor; and Paola Florescu, Vice President of the UAV Student League.
The University Senate President, Professor Dr. Alexandru Popa, and UAV Rector, Associate Professor Dr. Teodor Florin Cilan, extended the academic community’s greetings to students and partners. “This is a new beginning for our university, a start that we are delighted to celebrate with faculty, pre-university colleagues, authorities, and our UAV partners. Together, we aim to provide our students with the best resources to excel on their journey toward knowledge. We are here for them, because of them, and with a focus on their future,” stated Rector Teodor Florin Cilan.
