Cooperation programmes financed through The Financial Mechanism of the European Economic Area
Aurel Vlaicu University of Arad is one of the Romanian higher education institutions which implements mobility programmes financed through the “Grants and inter-institutional cooperation” EEA 2009-2014 programme, Romania having accessed over 4.4 million Euros during the June 2013-December 2016 timeframe.With the aid of EEA funding, students as well as members of the academic/administrative staff can benefit from study, teaching or placement mobility grants with partner institutions from Norway, Iceland, and Lichtenstein.
EEA Study mobility programme
AVU students can apply for a 5 to 10-month long study mobility programme with Norwegian partner institutions, depending on the exiting inter-institutional agreements. Successful applicants are considered “beneficiaries of EEA funding” and have a similar position to that of ERASMUS students.
Before departing, EEA funded students are to sign a financial study contract which shall include the following documents:
- A study agreement which contains the study plan; this must be approved and signed by AVU, the host institution as well as by the student;
- "EEA Student Charter " – similar to the Erasmus student charter - which stipulates students` rights and obligations during their study period abroad
- Academic grades - 20% of the total score;
- Letter of motivation ‐20% of the total score;
- An interview which aims to confirm the contents of the letter of motivation as well as to evaluate the student`s attitude towards the mobility experience in the country of his/her choosing ‐ 40% of the total score;
- Relevant linguistic competences for a successful mobility (speaking the official language of the destination country is considered an advantage) ‐20% of the total score
- English language CV;
- A recommendation letter issued by the dean/head of the department - written in Romanian
Teaching/Administrative Staff members
- A letter of intent written in Romanian which highlights the teaching and professional objectives to be accomplished by the applicant during his/her stay;
- A recommendation letter issued by the Dean/Head of department - written in Romanian;
- A Mobility Agreement for Teaching proposed by the applicant, written in English;
- English language certificate
- Participation in seminars, workshops, conferences for the academic/ administrative AVU staff for a period of up to a week (5 days);
- Participation in "job shadowing" activities for a period of up to a week (5 days).
- English language CV;
- A letter of intent written in Romanian which stipulates the desired professional objectives and outcomes;
- A recommendation letter issued by the Dean/Head of department written in Romanian;
- A Mobility Agreement for Training proposed by the applicant, written in English;
- English language certificate.
FINANCING
The value of an EEA grant for AVU students amounts to 1200 €/month. Additionally, students receive an extra 500€ for medical insurance and travel costs. 80% of the total amount is received before the start of the mobility programme, the rest (20%) being received upon the termination of the mobility programme, depending on the fulfillment of all conditions stipulated in the financial contract.
SELECTION Process
In order to apply for an EEA mobility, students must fulfill the following criteria:
- Must be a full time AVU student (either a Romanian or a foreign citizen); in the latter case the student must hold a residence permit (either temporary or permanent) issued by the relevant Romanian authorities;
- The student must have successfully passed all his/her exams (be it undergraduate or graduate level);
- Must not be a freshman when starting an EEA mobility (valid only for undergraduate students);
- Must hold a language proficiency certificate (be it English or the language of the host country);
- Must have participated extensively in extracurricular activities (member of the Students` League/ scientific session participations/ member of various student organizations);
- Medical certificate attesting the student`s general health status.
Attention: according to programme regulations, students are eligible only once for an EEA grant.
The application file which must be submitted within the application period with the relevant faculty`s secretariat and must contain the following documents (same as for ERASMUS programmes):
- Application form
- ID copy
- Signed declaration confirming that the student has not benefited from a previous EEA grant;
- Student certificate (obtained from the student`s faculty secretariat) that must include the general grade average for the last exam session (which must be at least 7);
- A language proficiency certificate (English/ language of the country applied for)
- Copies of all diplomas considered to be relevant by the applicant (Students` League certificate, Student symposium participation certificate etc.)
- Medical certificate
- CV (Europass)
- Letter of intent (written by the student)
Selection standards:
Appeals can be submitted 24 hours from the moment results are published.
Priorities: Roma students, special needs students as well as students with a low-income economic background shall receive supplementary points during the selection process – 20% of the maximum available amount.

EEA mobility programmes for members of the academic/ administrative staff
- EEA Teaching mobility programme
Teaching mobility programmes are available for AVU staff members for up to a week (5 days) with partner universities and must include at least an 8 hours/day teaching load. Only institutions which have signed bilateral agreements for teaching mobility programmes with AVU can be selected.
The value of an EEA teaching grant is of 250 €/day; 1250 €/week (the equivalent in RON). Additionally, members of the academic staff receive an extra 500€ for medical insurance and travel costs. 80% of the total grant amount is received before the start of the mobility programme by way of wire transfer, the rest (20%) being received upon the termination of the mobility.
Selection process
Each interested member of the academic staff shall submit an application file with their host faculty.
Within 15 days of their return, each participant shall submit the documentation pertaining to the teaching grant with AVU`s ERASMUS Office.
Attention: according to the programme regulations, members of the academic staff are eligible only once for an EEA grant.
