Admission information for non-EU citizens

Citizens from non- EU countries can apply to any of the study programmes on offer provided that they meet all the requirements imposed by the legislation in force as well as by the university’s internal regulations.

Compulsory application documents

  1. Application form - Letter acceptance
    Application form – all fields are compulsory and the form should be submitted in 2 copies (please specify if you are interested in the Romanian Language Preparatory Year);
  2. Declaration of Authenticity
  3. Consent to the collection and use of personal data
  4. Study documents – legally certified copies and translations of the High School Diploma (and of the Undergraduate Diploma if the candidate applies for MA studies); The MA Diploma is also required for candidates who wish to enrol for a PhD study programme);
  5. Copy of the Highschool/Bachelor/Master certificate for graduates which have not yet been issued the original Diploma (if applicable);
  6. Transcript of grades - legally certified copies and translations – for all completed studies (High School and Bachelor) as well as the analytical curriculum in the case of candidates that request the equivalence of studies;
  7. Copy of the certificate attesting graduating the Romanian Language Preparatory Year or linguistic competences in other languages (English, French, German) (according to the language requirements of the elected study programme);
  8. Birth certificate - copy and legally certified translation;
  9. Copy of the passport – valid at least 6 months after the Letter of Acceptance to studies has been issued;
  10. Copy of the document attesting foreign residency (if applicable);
  11. Medical certificate (issued in an international language) attesting that the candidate does not suffer from any infectious ailments that are incompatible with their future profession;
  12. Complete contact data details: postal address, e-mail address, phone number.

Compulsory Documents for Doctoral Studies Applications

Foreign citizens can apply for doctoral studies in higher education in Romania if they:
a) Hold documents proving their citizenship of the respective state;
b) Have a master's degree or its equivalent.

Application File (compiled in two identical copies) should include the following documents:

  1. Application form - Letter acceptance
  2. Application form – all fields are compulsory and the form should be submitted in 2 copies (please specify if you are interested in the Romanian Language Preparatory Year);
  3. Declaration of Authenticity
  4. Consent to the collection and use of personal data
  5. Birth certificate - copy and legalized translation into Romanian or an internationally spoken language (English or French);
  6. Passport copy;
  7. Copy of the identity card from the country of residence;
  8. Copy of the document proving permanent residence abroad;
  9. High school diploma, according to the list provided by the Ministry of Education or its equivalent, apostilled/authenticated by the competent authorities of the issuing country - copy and legalized translation into Romanian or an internationally spoken language (English or French);
  10. Bachelor's and master's degree diploma or their equivalent, apostilled/authenticated by the competent authorities of the issuing country - copy and legalized translation into Romanian or an internationally spoken language (English or French);
  11. Certificate proving the successful completion of the master's exam for current year graduates - copy and legalized translation into Romanian or an internationally spoken language (English or French);
  12. Annual transcripts/degree supplements/discipline sheets - copy and legalized translation into Romanian or an internationally spoken language (English or French);
  13. Certificate of completion of the Romanian language preparatory program or language proficiency certificate, if applicable;
  14. Minutes of the equivalence commission showing the year of study the candidate may be enrolled in and any exams to be taken, as determined by each university/faculty, by comparing curricula and analytical programs.
  15. Medical certificate issued in the country of residence confirming that the candidate does not suffer from contagious diseases or other conditions incompatible with university studies, translated, if necessary, into Romanian, English, or French;
  16. Copy of the marriage certificate or any other document confirming a name change, if applicable - copy and legalized translation into Romanian or an internationally spoken language (English or French);
  17. Parental or guardian consent regarding the stay for study purposes in Romania, if the foreigner is a minor - copy and legalized translation into Romanian or an internationally spoken language (English or French);
  18. Preliminary agreement from a doctoral coordinator/doctoral school, if applicable, a doctoral research project related to the doctoral theme the candidate is applying for, and the curriculum vitae, if applicable;
  19. Proof of payment of the non-refundable processing fee of 500 lei, including the candidate's name for admission;
  20. A color photo in ¾ format.

The AVU admission committee shall assess the file containing the above documents and, if the file is complete and meets the admission criteria, shall forward it to the Ministry of Education, which will subsequently issue a Letter of Acceptance.

Once the Letter of Acceptance has been received, the prospective student should proceed to the following:

- Create the admission application file by certifying / legalizing prior diplomas / documents from relevant authorities;

- Apply for a student visa with a diplomatic mission in their country of origin;

- Pay the tuition fee for the entire academic year;

- Provide proof of financial means;

- Find accommodation, whether in AVU’s student halls or by renting an apartment;

- Secure health insurance, if needed.

Upon arrival, please visit AVU`s Office for International Relations. You will be further guided to your elected faculty in order to complete the enrolment process. This involves signing the study contract with the university and submitting the following documents:

- copy of the Letter of Acceptance issued by the Ministry of Education;

- original documents of study and certified translations,

- copy of the passport and the student visa,

- copy and certified translations translation in Romanian language of the birth certificate,

- medical certificate (in Romanian or English) to prove that you do not suffer from infectious diseases incompatible with your future profession;

- 2 photos, 3 x 4 format;

- proof of tuition fee payment.

All these documents represent your personal file as an AVU student. At the end of the study programme, you will be able to recover all the original documents submitted upon enrolment.

The Romanian Language Preparatory Year for non-EU citizens

The admission procedure and the documents that are to be submitted (except for document no. 7) for the Romanian Language Preparatory Year are the same as above.
