Abstract

The study was carried out to assess relationship between students’ performance in Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations and Cumulative grade point average at Yusuf Bala Usman College of Education Daura, Katsina State. The study adopted ex-post facto research design. The population of the study consisted of two thousand, six hundred and twenty-eight (2.628) while the sample for the study consisted of one thousand, three hundred and fourteen (1,314) students drawn from five (5) departments through purposive sampling technique. A proforma designed by the researchers was used for data collection. Pearson Product Moment Correlation was used to analyse the data collected. Findings of the study showed that there is significant relationship between students’ performance in UTME and their final CGPA in Yusuf Bala Usman College of Education Daura. based on these findings, it was recommended that screening exercise for admission as a post-UTME should be commenced in the institution to help the management to select candidates who are adequately prepared for successful pursuance of courses of study in the institution.
