Abstract

The paper explores the social inclusion of people with visual
impairment, namely, Leber's hereditary optic neuropathy,
which is a rare condition, the prevalence being one in
50,000 people. The paper is developed around the case
study and highlights the challenges and difficulties
experienced by a healthy person who is suddenly
diagnosed at the age of 20 with Leber's hereditary optic
neuropathy. The research uses the qualitative method, and
the practical implications are aimed at reducing the
psycho-emotional difficulties of people with visual
impairments, early recognition of symptoms and promoting
social equity and inclusion.
