This article presents a study on the effects of Propp’s Cards
method—as adapted by the author with the aid of artificial
intelligence—on narrative competence, as integrated
through the triadic model “Symbol, Empathy, Creativity”
(TRECS), during the final, control phase of the research.
Narrative competence is defined by three dimensions:
creativity, receptivity, and identification with the literary
character. The sample consisted of 240 children, aged 5
10, divided throughout the study into three categories:
preschoolers, first- and second-grade students, and third-
and fourth-grade students. The assessment took place
during a 3-minute oral test using the metaphorical “Happy
Ending” card. The children answered three open-ended
questions regarding creativity, symbolic identification, and
empathic identification. We can observe that the overall
TRECS average in the control phase increased
significantly depending on the age group. The results
support the usefulness of the TRECS model in children’s
and students’ reception of the fairy tale.
