Abstract

The present paper focuses on depicting relationships – from behavioral patterns,
interaction and communication, to personality factors - within families in which a
child with disability is present. Following complex analyses involving three cases
of families with disabled children and three cases of families with typical children
(no disabilites), the comparative results show that some particularities regarding
communication, behavior and schizothyme/cyclothyme personality factor exist
within families with disabled children. These case studies have enabled us to
better understand the ways in which family members represent each others’ place
and roles, differently in families with disabled children compared to typical
families
